The Northwest Connecticut Sportsman’s Council sponsored
the fourth Junior Hunting Day held in Western Connecticut
on September 27th, a date which also coincided with the observance
of National Hunting & Fishing Day.
Junior Hunting Day provides Connecticut-licensed junior hunters an opportunity
to hunt pheasant in an educational, in the field format. Each of the
junior hunters is provided the opportunity to hunt over trained dogs
in a controlled instructional environment. All junior hunters are accompanied
by experienced, licensed hunters during each phase of the event.
Our sincerest thanks go out to the Torrington Fish and Game Club, on
Weed Road in Torrington, Connecticut, who hosted the event. The Board
and Membership of the club made every effort to cooperate and ensure
a successful and meaningful experience for the young hunters in attendance.
The club grounds were superb, and all of the club facilities were made
available for our use.
Over the years, our member clubs, volunteers, and hunter safety instructors
have helped introduce hundreds of new, Hunter Safety graduates, to the
sport by supporting this activity. The instruction and experience gained
at this event makes these junior hunters a welcome addition to our sporting
fields of the future.
