Sportsman’s Group Backs Congressional Candidate
GOSHEN, CT (July 29, 2009) – The Northwest Connecticut Sportsman’s Council (NWCSC) has endorsed Justin Bernier (R) for the 5th Congressional District seat. A motion was made at the regular monthly meeting of the NWCSC, held on July 28th, stating: “In recognition of Justin Bernier’s principled support of the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights; in particular Mr. Bernier's support of our individual Second Amendment Rights; as well as his stated positions relative to the U.S. economy, environment, social institutions, and security; The Northwest Connecticut Sportsman's Council endorses the candidacy of Justin Bernier for the Fifth District Congressional Seat of the State of Connecticut.” The motion was passed by unanimous consent of the delegates attending this meeting. NWCSC Secretary Chris Marino said he was pleased to support Bernier – an outdoorsman and former Eagle Scout – based on his strong support for Connecticut’s Sportsmen and Sportswomen. “The organization will make every effort to keep its 6,000+ members informed of Justin Bernier’s positions and progress throughout the campaign,” Marino added.

5th District Candidate for Congress Visits NWCSC
Candidate for Congress in the 5th District of CT, Justin Bernier addressed NWCSC delegates at their June 23rd meeting. Justin is a veteran of Afganistan, has been educated as an economics major, worked in Governor Rell’s Cabinet , and in Congress for five years for Congressman Rob Simmons. He is a strong supporter of second amendment rights and our constitutional liberties. He has promised to support both when he is elected. During our far-ranging discussion, it became obvious that we were hearing from a candidate with principles and that the candidacy of Justin Bernier is worthy of the support of all sportsmen and firearms owners.

Housatonic WMA Habitat Project Completed!
The Wildlife Division of CT DEP has completed a habitat management project on a portion of the Housatonic River WMA. This project was sponsored by the NWCSC with an initial $3,000- grant. The project area is about 7 miles south of Cornwall Center on the west side of Rt #7. We have reclaimed about 16 acres of old field land, renewing habitat to benefit small game and songbirds. This project was completed in early 2008 and subsequent visits to the site throughout the summer demonstrated improvements in plant species diversity and wildlife use. Visitors are welcome to stop by and view the work.
