Sharon Pheasant Farm
It's not often these days that we see the generous acts and thoughtfulness of one man responded to with like kindness on the part of others: For many years Bob Wilber; the ownerof the Sharon Pheasant Farm, has faithfully supported the NWCSC Jr Hunting Day Program. Through this program, many of our members came to know and respect Bob as a friend and sponsor of the Council. When tradgedy struck with the 2011 October storm that virtually destroyed the farm, the Council took action and determined to help by holding a series of fund-raisers, as well as making an outright donation to the rebuilding effort. On Tuesday the 27th of March, the Council leadership presented Bob with a check for $5535.00 as the Council donation to match all other council affiliated club donations plus! The total raised by the Council and its affiliated clubs totaled $8,435.00. This was a gratifying experience for all who took part and something all Council Clubs should be proud of.

Housatonic WMA Habitat Project
The Wildlife Division of CT DEP has completed restoration of an old field habitat project a on a portion of the Housatonic River WMA. This project was initially sponsored by the NWCSC with an initial $3,000- grant. The project area is about 7 miles south of Cornwall Center on the west side of Rt #7. We have reclaimed about 16 acres of old field land, renewing habitat to benefit small game and songbirds. This project was completed in early 2008 and subsequent visits to the site throughout the summer demonstrated improvements in plant species diversity and wildlife use. In 2011, the DEP, working with Wildlife Grant funding for the New England Cottontail improved the existing plot and expanded habitat work to include additional acreage. Visitors are welcome to stop by and view the work.

NWCSCPromotes New Hunting Regulations
At the March meeting of the Conservation Advisory Council to DEP, NWCSC delegates promoted several pro-hunting regulation changes. First we proposed changes to the pheasant program that will fully fund the program and offer sportsmen a longer season with a more liberal season bag limit. By fully funding this user pay program, we hope to see more areas opened to pheasant hunting and more pheasants available for stocking in the future. 2: Open the coyote season in May to licensed turkey hunters. 3: Add a night hunting season for coyotes. We also supported a UBC proposal to extend bow-hunting hours to 1/2 hour after sunset.
